TGV trains require a seat reservation before boarding and sometimes additionally a peak time supplement has to be paid. This therefore really negates the Eurail passes as it is necessary to queue up for a ticket of sorts. Train tickets have to be validated before boarding the train, this is using the small orange machines on the platform and there could be a penalty for failure to comply. There are no restrictions on bringing food and drink on board. Additionally, most long haul trains serve refreshments and light snacks.

Additionally, some stop at Lille in Northern France from which point it is possible to transfer to the TGV.

The Motor Rail is a really convenient way to get both the car and the passengers down to the South of France without the hassle of motorway driving, tolls, hotels and restaurants en route. This train goes from Paris to Nice, Cannes, Antibes,Monaco, Biarritz or Perpignan. It is often very inexpensive particularly when calculated against the cost of driving down. It is possible to rent a four berth couchette for one, up to four persons, or a six berth in a similar size.  

There is now an Auto Train which enables customers to load the car on to the train in Paris & then make their own way down separately, stopping off at different places of interest and then continuing the journey. This option is for people who do not want to drive down to the South but neither do they wish to sleep in the train. They would like  a more leisurely journey!
