People are travelling abroad more frequently and so the travel insurance market has been greatly increased. However with the use of the internet, shopping around and comparing prices has never been easier.

Normally people travelling abroad on more than two occasions a year, are better off buying an annual policy. These will generally cover various sporting activities as standard, although this must be verified in each case. Most policies cover each trip for a period of between thirty-one and forty-five days, although some cover up to ninety days.

Care needs to be taken over the cost of children included in the family. Some are covered free up to the age of eighteen and sometimes longer if they are still in full time education. Likewise the upper age limit can be contentious. Some Insurers increase their rates after the age of sixty-five and sometimes it is sixty-nine years or above!
UK citizens are entitled to free or emergency healthcare under the E111 scheme and all travellers from the UK should carry a card. This is not a substitute for healthcare under a travel policy and does not cover any private healthcare, often given as standard in Europe.
