We Say

Alsace is a region bordering both Germany and part of Switzerland. Despite its invasions in the war, Alsace has managed to keep much of its history and architecture with castles, half timbered houses, beautiful villages, Churches and Cathedrals. It’s location means that our diverse selection of gites in Alsace are surrounded by a beautiful, varying landscape from marshland to forests, agricultural countryside to mountains. The Regional Parks of Vosges are worth a visit for their beauty, wildlife, castles and vistas. Specialities of the Alsace are strongly based on German traditions and include Munster cheese, Flammeküeche (tarte flambée), Sauerkraut (choucroute), Strasbourg sausages, Kugelhopf and Alsatian Apple Pie. Alsace is France’s largest beer producing region, making beers such as Fischer, Kronenberg and Karlsbräu. However the region is also where Schnapps and Kirsch is traditionally made as well as being a wine producer with it’s own wine route (Route des Vin d’Alsace). Wines of Alsace are named after the grape that they are made from unlike with other French wines, these include Riesling, Muscat d’Alsace and Gewurztraminer amongst others.
