We say

Named after the river that runs through it, the Dordogne is a popular area within the Aquitaine region. Known as Périgord by the locals, visitors to gites in dordogne will soon discover the famous patchwork fields, castles (there are over 1000 of them!), rivers, medieval towns and beautiful countryside. Activities include visiting caves (including the famous Lascaux cave paintings), Roman ruins, fortified towns, cycling and river activities. Specialities include foie gras, black truffles as well as wines from Bergerac and Sarlat. To compare french gites in other regions please return to the gitecompare homepage.

The Dordogne is one of the most picturesque and fascinating areas in France and perhaps the most incredible area is the Vezere Valley - the ‘Cradle of Mankind’, you really get close to your ancestors here.  Not only is it beautiful, there is so much to do for all ages.  The Vezere River is great for canoeing, there’s markets, activity & aqua parks and lots, lots more.  It’s the land of Caves - Lascaux II, Font de Gaume, Les Combarelles to name just a few and Castles - Castelnaud is surely one of the most imposing sites, towering majestically over the Dordogne river - the views are stunning.  Perhaps we’re biased, we live here and love it!  Check it out for yourself - and if you want ideas for your holiday, ask us!  Steve & Judie - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
