One of the sunniest parts of the French Atlantic coast, the area extends from La Rochelle to the long sandy beaches at Royan, and the Côte Sauvage including the islands of Ré, Oléron, Aix and Madame. Whilst inland, Poitou-Charentes is a land of beautiful countryside with wooded valleys, fens, canals and even vineyards (Cognac). The region provides an array of activities include sailing, water sports, fishing, and visits to local beaches. Wine tours, Roman ruins and bustling towns such as Cognac, Saintes, Angoulême and La Rochelle await you and there is even a futuristic theme park that’s not to be missed- Futuroscope. Specialities in this region include Charantaise or Oléron oysters served with sausages, Torteau Fromager- a type of cheese cake, melon and chabichou du Poitou goats cheese.
