Known fondly as the French Riviera by Brits, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is a region famed for its chic inhabitants, the glamour of the Cannes Film Festival and its long, sunny days. However, the coastal resorts are not all that this region has to offer, the Alps separate this region from the Italian border, making it a popular Ski resort and the climate makes it a region abundant with flowers, fauna and beautiful countryside (think of the famous lavender fields in Provence).  Activities include anything that can be done outside, from window shopping in the designer boutiques, to rock climbing; water sports to skiing and of course the all important ‘sport’ of people watching in the glamorous coastal resorts.  Specialities of this region include fish and seafood, Ratatouille, Pistou- a thick soup, Bagna Cauda- local vegetables dipped in hot olive oil, , Bouillabaisse, Daube de Boeuf- beef stew, with tarte tropézienne and calisson d’Aix for dessert. Drink Pastis, as an aperitif along with the regions renowned rosé wines, or if you’re feeling rich how about a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.- Gitecompare.com
